If you have never seen it, it’s amazing.  Tables of items such as blenders, electronics, gift baskets, turkey baskets, turkeys and more.  $1.00 raffle ticket gets you a chance at winning one of the items. Come and support the Marlborough community with the Marlborough Rotary Club for this fun filled event.  Ask anyone you know in Marlborough if they have been and they will tell you, you have to see it to believe it.

 Thank you to the many Marlborough attendees over the years who have supported the Turkey Shoot.  This is our 29th year and we would love to make it a great success for the Marlborough community. 

Funds raised from this event help to provide Thanksgiving meals and holiday toys and meals for Marlborough residents.

Marlborough Rotary Turkey Shoot

Have you been challenged to find a way to get rid of that old toaster in the basement or the large CRT monitor that stopped working back three years ago?  The Marlborough Rotary club will be holding an Electronics Recycling Day October 22

What you missed August 11th, if you didn’t catch the Marlborough Rotary clubs program J:  Speaker Dr. Dawn Gelino, Scientist and Task Leader for Science Affairs at the NASA Exoplanet Science Institute, @ CalTech  
Dr. Gelino took us on whirlwind tour of the universe while explaining why scientists are fairly certain that there are other “Earths” in our galaxy and others.  In the words of Carl Sagan, “With ten billion trillion planets…it’s likely the universe is brimming with life.”  Dr. Gelino began with what we know – our Sun with eight planets orbiting, and only one with life.  But with 200 billion stars in our galaxy, and billions of galaxies…and they all have stars…it is easy to imagine other ‘earths’.
Stars are easier to see than planets; 564 planets have been found, but only four have been imaged.  The Hubble Space Telescope helps us get sharper images of stars, but it takes getting rid of the starlight to see the planets.

‘Planet hunters’ as they are called, are detectives! They find most planets one of two ways. Did you know stars wiggle?  They do if there are planets around them, exerting a gravitational pull.  Now planet-hunting scientists look for stars that are moving, exhibiting the pull of orbiting planets.  Or, they look for transiting planets, those crossing right in front of a star, blocking its light.  Transiting planets are very rare, and it takes a lot of time and patience to ‘see’ them.  The Kepler Mission has been staring at one patch of the sky for two years so far! It has found a system somewhat like our solar system…but it is very far away.  To cross our galaxy it would take about 100,000 years traveling at the speed of light (which we cannot do yet.)

NASA funds all kinds of projects, including looking at the earth!  The next big project, being developed now, is the James Webb Space Telescope. It is the next generation, ‘window on the universe’ for all of us and depends on our government’s commitment to space exploration.  To find out more about NASA and the NASA Exoplanet Science Institute, go to http://planetquest.jpl.nasa.gov/.  Your explorations will take you out of this world!

This week Stephen Hitner, MetroWest Printing and president of Mass Alimony Reform gave the Marlborough Rotary Club an update on the status of alimony reform in Massachusetts.  The bill addresses laws on the Massachusetts books that have not been changed since the 1700’s. 

Through Hitner’s personal story about alimony he began the push to reform the laws and this past week, his efforts paid off with the Massachusetts House passing bill H.3617.

The MadHatter Gallery was the perfect location for this event and as one attendee put it “we had a fabulous time and enjoyed ourselves immensely.  Everyone was so friendly. We purchased some artwork and really had a great time”

What’s your Chocolate Pleasure?

There will be something at Death by Wine and Chocolate, Friday 13th of May, to tempt everyone’s taste buds.  Would you like to try the spicy sweetness of Lindt’s Chili Dark Chocolate or their fruity option Black Currant?  One can never get enough of the melty centers of their delectable truffles.  Maybe you enjoy the soft bite into a piece of homemade fudge which immediately melts in your mouth.  Wayside Country Store is bringing their fudge along with their handmade chocolates for sampling.  Is White chocolate your favorite, have you tried it with Coconut and Cornflakes?  Hannaford will be bringing this along with other items from their Taste of Inspirations Belgian chocolate line.  We will also have organic fairly traded chocolate.  Equal Exchange is offering Dark chocolate with toffee bits and sea salt, a decadent combination of salty and sweet.  Everything at Chloe Bistro in Hudson is delicious so I know that everything they bring will be amazing, they are keeping it a surprise.  Assabet Regional Vocational School is baking yummy mini éclairs.  These are just a few of the scrumptious selections that evening.  There will also be a variety of wines to sample provided through Monti’s Mini Mart.  Coral Seafood, soon to be re-named Fish, will be offering an array of cheeses to accompany the wines as well.  Hopefully this has tantalized your appetite and we will see you at the Mad Hatter Gallery in Marlborough, MA!

 Join us for Death by Wine and Chocolate on Fridey the 13th of May from 6-9pm at the Mad Hatter Gallery 406 Lincoln St. Marlborough  for a unique and fun evening of Wine and Chocolate. 

 Sip some wine, taste some chocolate and view some interesting artwork all while supporting a worthy cause, The Marlborough Rotary Club.  Proceeds from the event will benefit the Mad Hatter Gallery, as well as funding the Rotary club’s other charitable giving.  The money we raise will help to fund scholarships for local Seniors, Dictionaries for all 3rd graders in Marlborough, Holiday food baskets for the needy and international projects as well. 

***This is also the week after Mother’s Day so consider getting tickets in advance for your Mom/spouse or write a note about the event and pay at the door.  Either way they will be so touched that you want to spend an evening out with them and that you thought of something fun and different to do!***
