Rotary Club - Rotary Centennial Project
Project
objectives/ description of project site
The project is a recommitment of service to the City of Marlborough in a time of great need. The objectives will be to form partnerships with the human service agencies in the City to provide volunteer services, and some equipment to narrow the gap in their funding. Volunteer services may include food drives, working events for the organizations; teach ESL classes, staffing the food pantry one Saturday per month, and more. Marlborough Rotarians will provide these volunteer services wearing Rotary apparel. The sites will include Marlborough Community Services, Employment Options, Greater Marlborough Programs, MetroWest Boys and Girls Club. At these sites, we will place plaques commemorating the Rotary Centennial and the partnership of the Marlborough Rotary Club with the particular organization. We will also update the five Rotary signs at the entrances to Marlborough to include Centennial signs below the Rotary wheel. How
did your club determine the need for this project?
Each of the vital human service agencies (listed above) have had their funding slashed by government, the United Way and other funding agencies so that they are now operating on a fraction of the budget they had two years ago. In addition, rising unemployment has caused a surge in need for services within the community. We determined that in the hierarchy of needs, food, shelter, clothing, and educating people for self-sufficiency represent a far greater need than statues, park benches, etc. How
does your club plan on implementing the project?
(describe fundraising efforts, partnerships with other local
organizations, public relations) We will arrange specific partnerships with each of the organizations, determining their needs that Rotary can fulfill. In addition to the specific needs assessment, we will conduct a talent assessment within the club to determine who shall perform which volunteer services. The goal is 100% club member participation. We have scheduled an additional fundraiser each year for, at least, the next three years to fund the project. The club Publicity Chair will keep the news of the project’s progress in the public eye via print media, as that is our only local medium. Estimated
date of completion: Ongoing starting in 2003
